The unexpected snow on Boxing day was a very welcome surprise! Having a week off work meant I had a little spare time to get out into the countryside walking directly from my house in Hillsborough up the hill through Wadsley to Loxley Common which is made up of woodland featuring a really wide variety of trees and natural features. Included in this blog are a selection of snowy landscape photography images taken in the wooded Loxley Common and higher up on the country lanes of the northern Peak District. The temperatures on the day were around freezing keeping the snow fresh and made for a beautiful day walking through the local scenery.
The snow was very thick in places and had clung to much of foliage, the beautiful sunny day allowed me to get many photos with either clear blue skies or including the sun bursting through the trees to add a little drama to amazing snowy Sheffield countryside. The huge dynamic range of the snowy scenery was difficult to manage but with a little help from Capture One software I was able to bring the highlights and shadows into range with one file and capture the dynamics of the strong winter sunlight. The area around the Loxley valley has a lot of opportunities for photography and I hope to explore my local area on more occasions now that I have covered much of the northern Peak District National Park.
