Cornwall Coast / Looe & Polperro

I've just got back from a trip to Cornwall and it was the first time that I've used my camera to take any landscape photographs in 2025. Whilst it was mainly a holiday, I did manage to get some shots of the beautiful coastal locations of Looe and Polperro. I’ve not visited this part of Cornwall previously, it proved to be a little more sedate than the wild Atlantic coastline further south west. Basing ourselves in Looe, I didn't need to venture far from the hotel to take photos as it was located right on the headland given really easy access to the beach and the famous viewpoint looking back towards Looe harbour.

We were in Looe for 4 nights, allowing me to keep an eye on conditions and nip out when the weather and tidal conditions were looking favourable. Being May, the sunset was positioned neatly looking back up the river, allowing me to capture what I assume must be an often photographed picture postcard scene. It has all of the elements of a successful photograph and the smooth lighting on this particular evening balanced beautifully with twilight in the sleepy harbour town. I did a bit of climbing about on the rocks after sunset one evening to capture a classic seascape shot, the clear water offering up a beautiful green hue.

On perhaps the hottest day of the week, took the bus to Polperro and walked back along the stunning coastal path. It’s the first time I’ve visited the village and can see why it attracts so many photographers and tourists. The tide heights didn’t time well with my visit, I managed to grab a couple of quick shots looking across the harbour before the boats left to moor up in deeper water and the inner harbour all but emptied. I made the most of the available water outside the harbour walls with a few shots from the headland looking back towards the town, the water again reflected a beautiful green tone.
